With a population of 3.4 million inhabitants from more than 180 nations, Berlin is Germany’s largest city and one of the most extraordinary in Europe. Two decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it is on the way to becoming an international metropolis on par with London, Paris, Shanghai, and New York.

How many undergraduate and Master's courses do they offer in English?

Freie Universität Berlin offers two Bachelor’s degrees which are completely bilingual and eighteen in which certain elements are taught in English. Nine of our post-graduate programmes (Master’s courses or continuing education) are in English, ten are run bilingually and a further 37 have some classes in English.

Freie Universität Berlin does not charge any tuition fees for undergraduate programmes (that is, programmes accessible to candidates with a secondary school diploma who have never studied at a university before). There are, however, a number of minimal charges made for the following (amounts quoted are for the Winter Semester 2011/12):

 - € 50.00 as the enrollment / re-registration fee

 - € 41.20 as a contribution to the student union

 - € 8.50 as a contribution to the student government

 - € 145.00 for a travel pass for all three zones in Berlin (ABC) for the whole semester

Total:   € 244.70

How many international students are there?

Of its approximately 28,500 students in over 160 subject areas, 17 percent come from abroad, as do 24 percent of its 4,300 doctoral students.
