The BMELV promotes healthy enjoyment involving good, safe food. This includes the dissemination of information about the basic principles of a healthy diet, for instance in the National Action Plan "IN FORM – German National Initiative to Promote Healthy Diets and Physical Activity". In order to guarantee good, safe food from the farm gate and stable to the dinner plate, there are a number of statutory provisions coupled with extensive controls.

German Import Conditions for Food
There are a number of national and EU regulations that apply regarding the import of food to Germany. The importer must comply with these regulations as well; the importer is the first link in the domestic sales chain and consequently responsible for the marketability of the imported products.
