German Saturday Schools

The Association of German Saturday Schools is the umbrella organisation for German Saturday Schools in the United Kingdom. Its member schools promote German language and culture in the United Kingdom, especially among families with German-speaking backgrounds. Bournemouth and Cambridge are two of the most recently established schools in the UK.

There are around 15 German Saturday Schools in the UK. They offer supplementary education in German for children who are growing up bilingually in the UK. Usually one parent comes from a German-speaking background. Because they do not actually teach German as a foreign language, but hold their lessons in German, children need to have a certain level of understanding and speaking German when they start out. Teachers at a German Saturday School usually are native German speakers.
