Reception on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the Association of Jewish Refugees

Charlotte Knobloch with German Embassy staff Enlarge image Dr. Charlotte Knobloch with German Embassy staff (© German Embassy) To mark the 70th anniversary of the Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR) the German Ambassador Mr Georg Boomgaarden hosted a reception at his residence on 20 December. Dr Charlotte Knobloch, former President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and currently President of the Jewish Cultural Society in Munich, gave a talk on "Jewish Life in Germany today".

As the reception coincided with the first night of Chanukah, Rabbi Danny Bergson of Pinner Synagogue lit the Chanukiah and lead prayers and blessings in celebration, and sang a selection of popular songs.

The event was attended by more than 100 members of the AJR, among them a number of first generation Holocaust survivors and refugees, and many other guests.
